Recently The Advertisement Standards Authority has banned an advertisement of Wink Bingo – the latter being renowned for their string of humourous advertisements.
The unlucky advertisement portrays a nurse with a laptop. She is beside a trolley full of surgical equipments inside the maternity unit of a hospital. Her laptop reads “Wink Bingo Winner”. In her excitement and joy she seems to be ignoring the patient about to give delivery in the next room. The catchy lines are “Find the appropriate moment …”
It is alleged that the advertisement implies that the nurse is neglecting her duties by getting involved in online Bingo games. The ASA thought the theme was sending the wrong messages and had the advertisement withdrawn.
The ASA admitted that although the intention was to depict reality in a funny way, it inadvertently showed a healthcare professional neglecting her duties. She plays with Bingo while somebody else struggles with labour.
Since the debut of the Gambling Act of UK more and more gambling companies are at the receiving end by having their advertisements being yanked off the air for transgressing strict rules. Spacebar Media, the agency handling Bingo’s assignments stated that they had taken all precautions to avoid racy ads but were unlucky enough to have crossed the lines.
